During a two year term of congress thousands of bills are introduced. Comittee action is in each house of congress. New bills that are sent to the committees that deal with their subject matter. To reject a bill , committee members can ignore it and simply let it die , a process called " Pigeonholing , " or they can kill the bill by a majority vote. when the committee decdied to act on a bill, the committe holds hearings on the bill. During the committee the hearing listens to the testimony from witness who may include experts on the subject of the bill. The goverment officals and repersentatives of interset group concerned with the bill. The hearing are supposed to be an opportunity for congress to gather information to the bill. Most information gathered is by research by the the committee. Many senate an d house committees use the internet to set up interactive hearings with expert witnesses at the location outside Washington D.C.. After the floor debate the bill including any propsed changes, Is ready for a vote. The house or senate now receives the third reading of the bill. A vote of the bill in is a vote of all presents. The house of senate members can vote on bill in one of three ways. The first way is by voice wich members call out "Aye "or "No". second way of voting is by standing vote or division vote, In which in those in favor of the bill stand and are counted a nd which are opposed are also counted. The roll-call vote is a voting method in which everyone responds "Aye" or "No" as their names are called in alphabetical order.
